Among them were women who previously were unable to work, but now – albeit with painkillers – could be much more active during their period. These women also confess on a better mood during menstruation, primarily due to the fact that they are experiencing less pain.

According to the scientists, the pill prevents the production of prostaglandins, which are hormones responsible for the cramps and pain. The levels of these hormones decrease significantly when a woman regularly takes the pill.

The researchers also state that it is good for women to know that the pill has more advantages besides birth control. They believes that an information leaflet should be included on the effects of the pill on painful menstrual periods. This information can help millions of women worldwide that are experiencing menstrual pains every month.
